Once there were 4 billion of these useful trees and then the blight hit them. They provided habitat, food for wildlife, and wood that could be used for many things like fences, which are still intact in the Blue Ridge.
We learned a lot in a short time and I hope my memory held well till I got home and titled the photos. Join us on the American Chestnut Restoration Tour via my photo album of the time in Nelson County.
Nelson County is my absolute dream place to live in the whole United States. The views are awesome. One day ...... if not on this earth, then that's my vision of my piece of Heaven.
Visit The American Chestnut Foundation website for more information on their mission and history on these trees.
