God’s Abounding Love

by Cecil Paxton

In Genesis 1:1 it says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” and in Revelation 4:11 it is written that "thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” God created the heavens and the earth for us and created all the birds of the air, the fish of the seas, the animals, trees and plants for us because He desired to have fellowship with us.

He placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and there they had God’s full provision and the honor of walking with God in the cool of the day and had fellowship with Him. In the garden they enjoyed all the pleasures God had provided for them for the word “Eden” means pleasure. Everything was there for their pleasure. After they fell God came looking for them in the garden in the cool of the day. Adam said to God, “I hid because I was afraid.” For the first time in their existence they experienced fear.

For us it is written in 2 Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind.” Praise God! God loves us and in His love He clothed Adam and Eve and sent them out from the garden because He knew if they ate from the tree of life in that state they would be bound forever.

God had a plan and He brought Jesus into the world and Jesus laid down His life for us so we could be restored back into relationship with our heavenly Father. How great is God’s love for us! We are precious in His sight. We are of great value to Him. His love is everlasting, consistent, and never fails! God is love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says, “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up, does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things. Love never fails.”

God thinks no evil towards us. He will not deceive us, lie to us or rob us. Jesus said in John 10:10, “Satan comes in to steal, kill, and destroy but I have come to give you life and to give it abundantly.” God’s love is abounding. That means it is over-flowing with great quantity. It flows like a river never ending.

Psalms 36:7-8 says, "How precious is your loving kindness oh God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your pleasures.”

God wants us to enjoy His presence and partake of His pleasures for He takes pleasure in us and we were created for His good pleasure. We are greatly loved. God is steadfast and faithful. Nothing can separate us from His love. We are in the palm of His hand and no man can pluck us out of His hand. We can trust under the shadow of His wings. “O’ taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who trusts in Him." (Psalms 34:8)
