Have You Heard About Ebates?

Ebates has been a real blessing to us. It's a rewards type program where you get various percentages off depending on where you're shopping and what their percentages are for that day. If you're using Firefox they have an "add on" that actually shows you when you're shopping at a site that honors Ebates. You just click on "Activate Now" and when you're done shopping you will have received whatever the percentage was on your Ebates account. They send you an email to tell you that it was credited.

I didn't think it would add up to much but we're getting a check for $44.79!

Check it out.

Video (3 Min.): How Do You Define Obedience?

Are You Obeying God?
by Clint Byars

Do you want to obey God?
Do you think you're doing a good job of obeying him?

If you think you're not doing a good job of obeying God, how do you define obedience?

I would guess that all Christ followers want to obey God but often times we feel like we fall short. This is true for various reasons but one overwhelming reason we feel we're not obeying God is due to a wrong understanding of obedience.

Look at the Hebrew and Greek definitions of obey:

shama - Hebrew - to hear, to listen, to obey
hypakouō - Greek - to listen, to harken, to submit to
peithō - Greek - to be persuaded, to trust, to have confidence, believe, to listen, to suffer one's self to be persuaded

The focus is listening and being persuaded. To obey God is to be persuaded of and confidently act on what he has said.

Yes, obedience does have an element of submission but it starts in the heart, where we truly believe. If you have put your trust in Christ as your righteousness then you have obeyed God at the deepest level of obedience. From there, we are to remain confident in his finished work to the point that we are continually submitted to the transformative power of his spirit, which is the very essence of GRACE.

If you want to be obedient to your Heavenly Father, first and foremost do whatever it takes to be fully confident of what Jesus has done for you. In every situation you face in life, persuade yourself of the victory that Jesus has already won and shares with you.

Peithō also happens to be the root word of faith (pistis). Faith is not a commodity that you need to figure out how to get more of to be more spiritual. Faith is something that grows as you are persuaded of what God has done through Jesus and promised in his Word. Jesus says that all things are possible to the one who believes. The more confident you are in him, the more you believe and the more anything becomes possible for you.

Are you actively persuading yourself of your victory in Jesus?
Are you intentionally placing confidence in God's promises?
What does it take for your heart to be grounded in his truth?

The Critical Importance of Digestive Enzymes

The Critical Importance of Digestive Enzymes in Health
by Steven Horne

As I wrote in an article I recently updated at modernherbalmedicine.com, the one supplement I can't seem to do without is enzymes. I'm very inconsistent with what I take and shift products around constantly. But, when I stop taking my digestive enzymes, it always adversely affects my health. It's probably because I have tended to have digestive problems since I was a child.

Digestion is critical to good health, not just for me, but for everyone. If you can't properly digest your food, you can't get the nutrients out of it your body needs and a cascade of ill effects begins. That's why, over and over again, I find poor digestion to be a major root cause of chronic illness.

To learn more about this topic, watch my Herbal Hour video, Enzymes: The Spark Plugs of Life and read my article, Enzymes: The Most Important Supplement I Take. Both are featured on the home page.

The Face of Jesus Christ

by Cecil Paxton
Devotional Newsletter - February 2016

To really come to know a person is to experience the person face to face. In relating to each other in relationships you really come to know a person as time is spent with them. Over time, throughout the good times and bad times, you come to know who they really are.

In Exodus 33 Moses was having experiences with God that made God real to Moses but Moses wanted to really know God. What makes up a person is who they are inwardly on the inside just as 1 Peter 3:4 says, the hidden man of the heart, the uniqueness of who we are. This is our personality, how we think, believe and relate in life. Moses wanted to know the nature and character of God in a more personal way and really come to know Him. In Exodus 33:13 Moses said “Show me your ways that I may know you” and in verse 18 Moses said “Please show me you glory”. In Verse 20 the Lord’s response to Moses is, "You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live."

Today we are under a new Covenant through Jesus Christ where we can come to know the true nature and character of God in the face of Jesus Christ as it says in 2 Corinthians 4:6 NKJV “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

One of the uses of light in scripture speaks of the Glory of God where we experience His manifested presence and where we are being conformed to the image of Christ. Light shining out of darkness in our hearts speaks of the work of the Holy Spirit. Within us, out of a place that we do not know where, knowledge is made known to us giving us understanding, as the Holy Spirit is our teacher. If you really desire to know your heavenly Father today He is revealed to us today in the face of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 12: says “…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily en-snares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith..…”

If we do not humble our hearts letting go of life being all about us and our problems and discover our source of life in Christ where we come into a place of identifying with freedom found in Him, then we will always have trouble trusting Him because we will never really know Him. This will result in an impersonal relationship where we know about a person but really never come to know the person.

Moses experienced God in such a powerful way that he wanted to come to really know Him. Moses was limited in relationship with God. But today, because of Jesus Christ and what He accomplished through the Cross we can come to know our Heavenly Father in the face of Jesus Christ. We can have a personal relationship and experience His great love for us.

How Negative Headlines Can Impact Your Mental and Emotional Health

How Negative Headlines Can Impact Your Mental and Emotional Health
From Good News Network
You can have either a positive or negative emotional response to headlines depending on their content. For example, a study of 426 headlines on the cover of five of the highest circulating women’s health magazines in the United States revealed that the frequency of appearance themes (looking better) equaled those of health themes (doing something to feel better). The 103 undergraduate women in the study assigned to the appearance-themed covers reported more “body shame” than women assigned to magazines with health-themed covers.

Headlines partnered with images are especially influential because we process them in the right brain where an automatic body response is stimulated. For example, I remember my children as infants staring intently at their first book absent words, but filled with kindly human faces. The friendly feeling portrayed in the faces consistently drew smiles and happy sounds.

Interestingly, headlines are not always dependable to tell the truth of a story. Blake Andrew of McGill University analyzed headlines versus the storyline of articles during the 2004 Canadian federal election campaign. He found that headlines were created to “attract” readers not represent the accuracy of the story. Yet, many of us don’t take the time to read the whole article. Instead, we use headlines as a shortcut to gain a sense of it.
