Things You Should Know About Credit Cards

This article link is geared towards college students, but it's a great article on credit cards and how to use them and avoid them.  It paints a pretty good picture of how only a few thousand dollars of debt can take decades to pay off if you're only making the minimum payment each month.  Read the entire article.

Our way of using credit cards is to take the charge amount out of the budget as soon as it was charged.  Then we always have the funds to pay it off.  This has worked for us since the early 90's.  But if you don't have a budget worked out for your family, you're not going to know where your money goes.

It's not about how much you make because people that make larger incomes seem to be more in debt than those who make little.  It doesn't matter how much you make, it's choosing to live within the realm of your present income.  The only way to do this is to make a budget.  There's plenty of free budget software programs out there so this can easily be done on the computer.  There are good books on how to establish a budget.

If you'd like a Christian twist to the subject of getting debt-free, with some added humor, you might consider getting into a group that meets using Dave Ramsey materials.  Being part of a group makes a big difference and encouragement for those who are swimming in a sea of debt.  Google:  dave ramsey church group _______________ (fill in your city and state).  Maybe you'd like some information on what the Bible says about living debt-free.
