Newsletter - 12/1/10

Hello Friends!

I hope each of you found many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.  We don't see any family for this holiday so we decided to do a 4-day getaway to Charlotte, NC, to hear John Bevere, see the Billy Graham Library and also some new-to-us nature centers and preserves.

To top it all off we planned to meet special friends for lunch before heading back home.  It was a fun-filled time until we hit the highway home which was backed up for the first two hours (which should've been a 30-minute segment).  Oh well ... it didn't spoil our warm memories and gave us something more to be thankful for when we finally got to travel at the speed limit.

One exciting moment on our nature walks was when we saw a new bird.  Well, new to us, of course.  God knew all about him.  I had to post the photo on a bird forum to find out what it was.  I didn't have my field guides with me and it was too similar to several birds I found online, but not exactly like it.  Anyway ... it turned out to be a Wilson's Snipe.  How excited I was to know it would be one of my 60 new experiences.

More information and photos of the trip will have to wait until the next issue.  I will do a post as I complete each album.  One thing about Charlotte is that it has way too much traffic.  We're definitely not big city folks any longer since we enjoy the slower pace and less views of asphalt and concrete.  Another thing to be thankful for ... being able to live seeing wildlife every day.

Anybody been to The Everglades?  I have a post on the website seeking comments about it.  We're considering a trip down this winter before all the snowbirds get there and prices fly high.  Anybody live in South Florida?  Is there something else we should see while we're down there?  We would be flying into Miami on some free airline miles.  Share your comments at the post so others can benefit from them also.  With all the nature nuts on this mailing, I'm sure there are many who would love to know about The Everglades.

I'm thankful for each of you that share my life, passions and joy of the natural world and the Creator of it.

Love and Hugs,
Donna
