Tax Deduction for Pets

t’s called the HAPPY Act — Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years — and if it gets through Congress, pet owners across the nation will get a tax deduction for pet care expenses of up to $3,500 per person.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., defines a pet as “a legally owned, domesticated, live animal,” which covers dogs, cats and an assortment of other creatures. View updates on bill.
