Cool Critter Facts

The ant can lift 50 times its own weight, can pull 30 times its own weight and always falls over on its right side when intoxicated.

All porcupines float in water.

Giraffes have no vocal cords.

Armadillos are the only animals besides humans that can get leprosy.

A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why.

Studies show that if a cat falls off the 7th floor of a building, it has about 30% less chance of surviving than a cat that falls off the 20th floor. It supposedly takes about eight floors for the cat to realize what is occurring, relax and correct itself.

Mice, whales, elephants, giraffes and man all have seven neck vertebras.

More people are killed annually by donkeys than die in air crashes.

Duck quacks DO echo.

There are lots of fairs this time of the year. Head to one on the last day of the fair, when they are taking all the livestock home. Head for the barn where they have the ducks caged.

In a near-empty barn, you will clearly hear the ducks' quacks echoing.
